Chillingham Castle

Chillingham Castle is a 13th century, Grade 1 Star-listed stronghold in Northumberland, famed for action and battles.  With its fine rooms, gardens, lakes, fountains and tea rooms, the castle has an extraordinary ownership bloodline which runs back to the 1200s.

Just twenty minutes from the seaside, this romantic and thriving castle is perfect for family days out!

For lovers of haunted houses Chillingham Castle is reputed to be one of the most haunted castles in England, their ‘Torture Chamber’ and evening Ghost Tours are sure to entertain.

The garden dates to 1828, the work of royal designer Sir Jeffry Wyatville, fresh from his royal triumphs at Windsor.  The urns and statues have been replaced with modern composite copies but give an atmosphere of originality. The herbaceous border is the longest in Northern England. Deer, red squirrels and badgers are in the woods if you’re quiet!  There are also foxes and rabbits, along with the whole panoply of bird and plant life, all undisturbed by insecticides and poison.

Finish your day at the Tearoom, a delightful experience. Soups, sandwiches and cakes, and the finest teas and coffees served in ancient surroundings. A timeless treat – endearingly unique, reassuringly traditional and irresistibly delicious.
