Bamburgh Castle

Bamburgh Castle is the Kingdom of Northumbria’s epicentre and home of the Armstrong family since 1894.

Covering nine acres of the Great Whin Sill, Bamburgh Castle stands guard above the Northumberland coast as it has for thousands of years, truly England’s finest coastal fortress.

The first Anglo Saxon fortress dates back to AD547 and was a fortress against the Vikings before becoming a garrison where English attacks against the Scots were orchestrated. Battle weary by 1901 the Armstrong family restored it to provide a family residence ever since.

Today this historic castle now welcomes visitors to enjoy the castle and grounds and a paced program of events and entertainment.
