Farne Islands

Farne Islands are rocky islands, a habitat for seals and many species of seabird. The island of Inner Farne is open to visitors. You’ll need to book a boat ticket with one of the three boat companies, and purchase an admission ticket at the National Trust trailer on Seahouses harbour.

The Farne Islands are home to a large seabird colony with unrivalled views of 23 species, including 43,000 pairs of puffin!

It’s also an important grey seal pupping sites in England, with more than 2,000 pups born every autumn.

At Inner Farne you’ll find dive-bombing terns, a medieval chapel, Victorian lighthouse, and information centre all served by an easy access boardwalk.

Many of the islands hide underwater at high tide. Visitors pass lots of these inaccessible islets on boat trips – a short journey to a different world!
